Mr. Schiff Goes to Washington...He Hopes

Thursday, September 24, 2009, 2:40PM ET - U.S. Markets close in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Peter Schiff - financial adviser, author and predictor of the financial crisis - hopes to add U.S. Senator to his bio.  Schiff is running as a Republican for the Connecticut senate seat currently held by five-term incumbent Christopher Dodd, a Democrat.

Schiff has never held elective office but thinks his lack of political experience is an asset. "I think we need more citizen legislators," he says. "I think we need people to go to Washington who don't really want to be there, who actually want to do some civic duty."

As for Dodd, Schiff is already coming out swinging, attacking the Senate Banking Committee Chairman's record on the economy and his plan to overhaul financial regulation.  He also claims Dodd's lack of oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac "was one of the major factors in helping to create" the housing crisis.

Schiff's platform includes:

This Sounds Good / Have someone new not somebody who has been in politics all his life and steals $$$ to put in his pocket / at the beginning he will be honest but eventually he will become corrupt // That's politics and you can't change it

Peter speaks truth, always mocked, yet always proven right.

Peter at least has the right idea, which is for the USA to stop consuming more than we produce, and to stop printing money in the form of credit. He advocates what used to be taught in 8th grade economics, first you make a profit and then invest it back into the business.

be sure you are far better

If I could vote for him I would. But if this economic "recovery" continues to pan out over the next year, then he wont win.

Peter Schiff was right in some ways. His voice should be heard in the government. But here is why nobody will listen to him: http://www.tradingstocks.net/html/housing_market_bubble_bust_cyc.html

He had big points and a fire ball to hit them all........

I'm an Independent and would vote for Peter Schiff if I lived in CT.

Government and the FED runs a ponzi scheme to look good and to get re-elected. They will not entertain Peter Schiff's opinion! They have their own agenda. We need many Peter Schiffs to make a difference. http://www.tradingstocks.net/html/housing_market_bubble_bust_cyc.html

Go Peter! You have my support!

Schiff plays the shell Game. If he were honest he would tally thumbs down votes.

Dodd is a 5 term incumbent... Isn't it sad that CT voters kept sending the same person back to the US Senate to continue the corruption of our government. People take your government back... VOTE OUT the INCUMBENTS in 2010.

We are currently living in Alice in Wonderland, Planet of the Apes, 1984, and Brave New World dystopian nightmare in America, where people with logic and reason are considered ignorant, and every freak and fool and held up as virtuous. Peter is one of the few economists that actually understands the worth of money. We need realists in government.

Citizen legislators. . . . that is the most brilliant thing I have heard in awhile. Over half of congress is totally disconnected from reality. GO Schiff. . . kick Chris Dodd's ass. "It's not the SEC's fault, you were just dumb" Give me that on a bumper sticker.

YAWN............

He cannot win because he WILL NOT lie about reality. Most voters do not want reality, they want BS dreams. I am a massive fan of sales tax and no income tax. Rich people still have to pay all that tac on their Ferrari's, and what do they do if they dont want to pay that tax, they have to invest it, and where does that money go, oh, yes, into productivity and jobs. We should have a tiny government and just a much higher sales tax and free basic life services ( basic health, SS etc... )

The US Government should either Borrow or collect taxes (not both). Abolish IRS and let Pelosi spend, spend, spend borrowed money.

I would vote for him

Look. I've always considered myself a Democrat, and I have many friends that are Republicans. I believe we're all constantly arguing because we all lack information, and I'm telling you all, that Peter Schiff knows what he's talking about. I think the political arena will be more than he bargained for. However, at the very least, he should be hired as a financial advisor by the U.S. Government! Go Peter!
