President Obama and his advisors accurately framed the central challenge of health care reform as "bending the curve" of sharply rising health care costs. Without significant reforms, rising employer health insurance premiums will continue to sap business capital and erode employee take home pay. Smaller businesses will drop coverage as insurance becomes unaffordable, leading to an ever growing number of uninsured. Entitlement spending for Medicare and Medicaid will swamp state and federal budgets, threatening economically crippling tax increases or devastating spending cuts.
