America's Rise to the World's #1 Energy Producer

Natural gas production in the US reached a new all-time record high in July of 2.19 trillion cubic feet of “marketed production” (gross withdrawals less gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations), according to data released recently by the Department of Energy (see chart above). The record high production level in July reflects the ongoing shale gas boom in the US, fueled by the breakthrough drilling and extraction technologies of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, which have dramatically revitalized the nation’s domestic production of gas and oil.
