The Democratic Party, helped by a plethora of unions and liberal political action committees, is orchestrating a major push for more government-enforced income redistribution. Into this arena came the Pope, with a lengthy statement (entitled Evangelii Gaudium) in which one section called income inequality an injustice. This statement has been widely cited by liberals in support of their efforts to legislate more income redistribution, but I think they are misunderstanding or misrepresenting what Pope Francis is calling on people to do. The Pope wants more compassion and private charity by people, not government.
