If President Obama told the American people the truth about the economy, there would be more good news and more bad news than in most of his pronouncements. When it suits his purposes, President Obama still makes the economy seem worse than it is so that he can both blame President Bush and justify more policies he wants to implement. Conversely, when President Obama hopes to avoid blame or get credit (like during his re-election campaign) he makes the economy seem much better than it is. If, in a complete change in behavior, President Obama began to tell the economic truth, it might go something like this.
