Until this week, the S&P 500 Index seemed to be setting another record every day. It first reached the 2,000 milestone a month ago.
And the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which topped 17,000 for the first time in July, has stayed near that all-time high ever since.
Only the Nasdaq Composite index, that great bellwether of the 1990s technology and dot.com boom, hasn’t surpassed its record high yet.
