“I’m a low-interest-rate guy,” President-elect Donald Trump told CNBC during the campaign.

As a real-estate developer in his former life, Trump’s stated preference makes perfect sense, assuming low borrowing costs are a reflection of easy monetary policy, not of expected low rates of return on investment.

As a presidential candidate, Trump leaned in the opposite direction, accusing Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen of being “highly political,” of keeping interest rates artificially low to help President Barack Obama and ensure the election of Hillary Clinton.
